Gloria’s Latin Cuisine: 16 Patios Across Texas, One Enclosure Partner Since 2016

Gloria’s is a Texas family story, Salvadoran and Latin cooking served in dining rooms that look like someone’s good taste rather than a chain’s. The patios are part of that look. Since 2016 every new Gloria’s, and most of the older ones, has had us close the patio with motorized screens built to match the building, from a Spanish-tile awning in Rockwall to a brick lattice in McKinney to a mall storefront in Friendswood.

What we built

  • Customer: Gloria’s Latin Cuisine, the Fuentes family’s restaurant group, Dallas, Texas.
  • 16 restaurants from Southlake in 2016 to Prosper, The Rim in San Antonio and Baybrook in Friendswood in 2022, all in Texas.
  • About 125 motorized screens with clear vinyl windows, plus roughly 20 manual, fixed and sun shade units where a motor would be wasted, and about two dozen framed doors.
  • About 20,000 square feet of enclosure across the group.
  • Built to the building: dark mesh and clear under the tan awning at Rockwall, clear screens in black frames at the Baybrook mall storefront, a solid shade over the brick lattice at McKinney, maroon vinyl at Las Colinas.
  • Second phases: a new patio at Rockwall in 2020, sun shades and doors added at Garland, a west-wall shade at Garland in 2020, a second sun shade at Fairview.

How it works with a group like this

Gloria’s does not build cookie-cutter restaurants, so there is no single Gloria’s panel. What repeats is the process. The group tells us a patio is coming, our designer measures it when the structure exists, we match the screen color and frame to the building, and the crew installs around the opening date. Over six years that has run eighteen separate projects without the group needing to re-explain what it wants.

What made this one different

Variety on purpose. A mall storefront, a brick lattice, a tile-roofed hacienda and a two-story Oak Cliff patio all got the same motorized system, dressed differently. The McKinney lattice is the best example: the patio wall is open brickwork that the owners wanted to keep visible by day, so the screen is a solid shade that drops over it only when the sun or the wind calls for it.

The other thing is time. The 2016 screens at Southlake, Addison and Garland are still in service, and the group has come back for second phases at four locations rather than replacing anything.
