What Carolina patios need
Winter is the main case here. Mountain towns such as Asheville, Banner Elk and Linville run cold and windy for months, and a patio without sides is closed for much of that time. Clear vinyl with patio heaters keeps tables in service through the cold season. Further east, humid and coastal sites need finishes that hold up, and the same panels block rain on summer evenings.
Systems
Motorized. Motorized roll-down panels ride in keder track and raise or lower from a remote. They are rated to 65 mph deployed. MaxView clear panels run up to 24 feet wide, and the motors carry a 5-year warranty with 3 years on workmanship.
Roll-up clear vinyl. Hand-rolled panels on rope and pulley suit smaller budgets and venues such as pavilions and clubhouses. Seams are RF-welded, D-rings tie panels down, and the rating is 45 mph tied down. Panels run to 12 feet wide and zip to spans of 60 feet, with a 3-year warranty against manufacturer defects.
Sun shades. Nano fabric blocks up to 97 percent of the sun and takes about 10°F off a patio, motorized or on rope and pulley. All vinyl is NFPA 701 certified.
