Hideaway Pizza: Two-Story Patios on Three New Texas Stores

Hideaway Pizza is an Oklahoma institution since 1957, and its new Texas stores are built as two-story brick boxes with a patio on the ground and a terrace on the roof. Each one opened with motorized screens on both levels, so the terrace that sells the building works in a north wind and the ground-floor patio works at noon in July. Three stores in three years, the same general contractor on all three, and the same enclosure on every opening.

Hideaway Pizza McKinney: motorized screens on both the ground-floor patio and the rooftop terrace of the new brick building

What we built

  • Customer: Hideaway Pizza, Stillwater, Oklahoma.
  • General contractor on all three: READY Construction Services, Dallas, who ran each build and our scope inside it.
  • Plano, 2023: 6 motorized clear screens on the second-floor terrace, about 1,000 square feet, with 4 more added in a 2026 refresh.
  • McKinney, 2024: 12 motorized clear screens across both floors and 3 framed doors added by change order, about 1,900 square feet.
  • Fort Worth, 2025: 13 motorized clear screens in black and bronze on new posts, about 1,700 square feet.
  • Together: 31 screens and about 4,650 square feet, all motorized.

Before and after

Before, the McKinney terrace was a wood deck under red shade sails with a cable rail and the sky. The screens hang from the steel at the roof edge and land at the rail, and the sails and the string lights stay exactly where they were.

How it ran

Each store was a new build under READY, so our scope sat inside their schedule: layout from the plans, design consultation when the steel was up, screens delivered to the opening date. McKinney added three doors by change order once the owners walked the terrace and saw where guests would want to step out, which is the kind of change a two-story patio produces and a motorized system absorbs.

What made this one different

Height and repetition. A rooftop terrace is the hardest patio to enclose, with wind from every side and nothing to hide a hood in, and Hideaway builds one on every store. Doing it three times with the same GC meant the third one was a phone call.
