Del Frisco’s Grille: Motorized Patios for a White-Tablecloth Brand

Del Frisco’s Grille is the casual arm of a steakhouse group, and its patios sit in the kind of places that do not forgive a sloppy enclosure: Sundance Square in Fort Worth, a second-floor terrace in Southlake, a curved glass patio in Little Rock. Since 2015 every Del Frisco’s patio we have done has been motorized, with the curtain color matched to the building, because the brand wanted the enclosure to vanish when the weather was good and look like the architecture when it was not.

What we built

  • Customer: Del Frisco’s Grille, part of Landry’s since 2019, through the Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group facilities team.
  • 7 patios in 4 states: Southlake, Fort Worth, Plano and The Woodlands in Texas; Little Rock, Arkansas; Westwood, Massachusetts; and the group’s Sullivan’s Steakhouse in Leawood, Kansas.
  • About 60 motorized units with clear windows, in tan, black, espresso and charcoal to match each building, with framed doors at every patio.
  • About 7,000 square feet of enclosure.
  • Southlake twice: eight charcoal screens in 2015, then a full remake in late 2023 with new screens and 13 fixed clear panels on the terrace.

What made this one different

Height and finish. Plano’s units are 18 feet tall and The Woodlands’ are over 12, which puts them at the top of what a single motorized curtain will do, and they hang in bronze and espresso housings on buildings where a white hood would have been a mistake. Westwood was built onto a new patio roof structure while the structure was going up, in Massachusetts, with our crew flying in.

The Southlake remake is the long-run story. The 2015 screens went eight years on a second-floor terrace in the Texas sun, and when the group refreshed the restaurant it had us replace them in kind and add fixed clear panels rather than start over with someone else.
